Brief History of the Department

            The Department of Political Science of Bijni College was established with single faculty, U.C. Das on 21st July 1969. It started offering Political Science subject in Higher Secondary Course since its establishment. The department started offering Undergraduate General Course under Gauhati University since 1971. It got subject concurrence from Gauhati University on 12th March 1975. It introduced Undergraduate Honours Course from the Academic Session 1979-1980 and got subject concurrence from Gauhati University on 12th October 1984. The department had been affiliated to Gauhati University from the Academic Session 1971-1972 to the Academic Session 2019-2020. It has been affiliating to Bodoland University since the Academic Session 2020-2021. The department has been offering Undergraduate Major, Minor, Skill Enhancement, Discipline Specific Elective courses since the Academic Session 2022-2023 under Bodoland University. Many employable, eligible undergraduates for pursuing further higher education and political practitioners have been produced by the department so far.

Objectives :

            The Department of Political Science of Bijni College aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of political process and phenomena. It aims to produce graduates in Political Science equipped for academic and professional capabilities who are able to examine political thought and issues critically. It also aims to promote research endeavors among faculty and students for a better understanding of political phenomena with new exploration.

Vision :

  1. Enhancing the students with quality and practical knowledge about subject matters of Political Science with the help of ranging from local to global resources.
  2. Equipping students to be responsible citizens and uplifting them socially to adapt themselves in changing socio-political and economic world.
  3. Educating the students about the diverse applications of earned political knowledge for the well-being of society. Fostering holistic development in students through quality education and acquainting them with moral values of politics.

Innovative Practices :

  1. With view to advance practical understanding on regional and international politics, the department organizes replicas of summits. Like, Replica of G-20 Summit, Replica of BIMSTEC Summit, Replica of  BRICS Summit etc.
  2. The department organizes peer learning programmes like, students led group discussion, self prepared topic presentation and sharing of knowledge among peer in the class, etc.
