Brief History of the Department

     Keeping in view the sizable number of Bodo students in the Collage the GB had decided to introduce Bodo from the session 1979-80. Permission for Bodo MIL was got from the University on 21-12-1983 and the temporary affiliation was granted on 12-10-1984.
       Mr. Mahesh Islary, the founder teacher (Non-Sanction) in the Deptt. Joined on 14-09-1981 and left the institution after serving for a few years. Mr. Niru Basumatary joined the department on 09-11-1983 and he is still continuing as the Head of the Department (now he retired in 2013). Mr. Simson Basumatary was appointed in the second post in the department on 19-09-1984.But later on he left the institution. In the vacancy created after his departure Mr. Bhupen Narzary was appointed on 24-08-1986.Mr.B.G.Basumatary was temporarily appointed in the Department on 17-12-1992 after departure of Mr. Bhupen Narzary. But he left the department to join the Assamese Department of the College. In the vacant post created after the departure B.G. Basumatary, Mr. Pramatesh Basumatary was appointed in the second post on 13-01-1996 but he resigned on 05-04-1999. In the said post G.B. Kachary was appointed on 01-12-2000 (now in sanction post from 08-92-2010 and continuing as the HoD).To cope with huge number of students in the department the GB appointed Mr. Indrajit Brahma in the third post. He joined on 01-09-2003(now in sanction post from 08-02-2010). On the basis of huge number of students GB appointed serially Mrs. Binika Goyary in 14/09/2009 (now in sanction post from 04-07-2023), Dr. Asha Rani Brahma in 10/08/2010 (now she left the department) and then Mr. Swrangsar Daimary in 01/04/2023 Mr. Arga Basumatary in 15/09/2023 and Ms Anuradha Basumatary in 15/09/2023 as the guest faculty. Now presently mentioned below faculty members are continuing in the department respectively.

Objectives of the Department :

The objectives of the department are as follows-

  1. To make the students skilled in the deferent areas for surviving their future life.
  2. To place the students in the higher education as well as jobs.
  3. To make the good quality of social leadership.
  4. To serve cleanness of the society.
  5. To save and make fitness the Bodo society as well as human society, culture, language & literature.
  6. To help the College in to the ways of enrichment.

Vision of the Department :

           Accordingly as we have vision to expand our department with Elective and Major Courses in the department since 2000 Elective Bodo and 2006 Major subjects are introduced respectively. We are also planning to hold the UGC Sponsored Seminars in the department. We have planning to publish an annual departmental journal .Accordingly our vision The  IDOL course in Bodo  is introduced in the department since 2012 and Lastly the Post Graduate Course in Bodo is opened in the year of 2020 under the affiliation of Bodoland University. Future plans-of the department is to organize international seminar, opening skill course in the Bodo culture along with Bodo language learning centre and vocational course.

      Bodo department have wall magazine named “Bibar’’ (Flower).This magazine is annually publish by the department which is running from the year 2014 to till now.

  3. Departmental Farewell to the outgoing students, especially for last year of major&PG students.
  4. Publishing a departmental wall magazine name the ‘Bibar’ in a year.
  5. Holding a Workshop on dissertation for 6th semester before the last exam.
  6.  Arranging the Guardian meet of major students within the year.
  7. Publishing departmental journal as far as possibility.
  8.  Departmental Group discussion with the major & PG students within the far session.
  9. Holding departmental counseling program, pre & post admission of the session.

Academic Strategy of the department :

  1. Departmental meeting to discuss the planning of teaching and learning method.
  2. Division of syllabus and unitisation with lesson plan.
  3. Preparation of departmental calendar, routine and   Academic Audit Report.
  4. Planning of extra classes and non class academic activities.

Departmental Publication :

No publication at all. But department is deciding to being published as soon as accordingly visions of the department.

INNOVATIVE PRACTICES :

  1. Publishing departmental wall magazine to improved the writhing skill.
  2. Holding seminar, group discussion, workshop relating to the course of syllabus in every academic session to improved the both UG and PG students.
  3.  Organize the departmental Parent –teacher meet in every academic session,
  4. Organize freshers & fare well program for the new and outgoing students in every year.
  5. Participation in inter- dept./institutional/state level events- culture, sports, quiz and cultural rally.
  6. Participating in Inter- institutional exchange program/ MOU
  7. Observing Teachers Day &,  students day
  8. Using smart board &projector
  9. Organize the Field work for project paper and educational Tour to the students for exercising the out knowledge.
  10. Students and teaching staff are sometimes keeping attachment with social functions.

Achievements :

  1. Academic- students’ toper in result of the college under GU. 
  2. Sports-  inter department, state level Kabadi & football in 2021.
  3. Students got 1stprize  in cultural rally in 52th annual college week festival in 20223.
  4. Students got 1st prize in group dace competition in the conference of BDTA in 2022.
  5. Students git 3rd prize in cultural rally in 54th annual college week festival in 2024.
  6. Students got 1st  prize in cultural rally in 53th annual college week festival in 2021.
  7. Students got the best team prize in the Renu Boro (founder principal) Memorial Day celebration of Boroma College in 2022.
