Brief History of the Department

            The department started along with the establishment of Science Stream on 21^st July 1994. The deptt. had got permission to open the U.G. Course (General) from the session 1994 – 1995.The deptt. got Govt. Concurrence and permanent affiliation from Govt. of Assam and G.U. on 22-02-2001 and 13-08-2009 respectively. The first man joined the deptt. on 20-09-1994 was Mr. Ram Kumar Saha but later on he left. The next to join the deptt. on 29-09-1995 was Miss SwapnaSaha and she is now heading the deptt. Mr. Prabhat Choudhury joined the deptt. on 03-09-1996 and he left the department on 21-07-1998. Mr. Dipak Bhattacharyya joined the deptt. on 23-10-1998 and he is continuing his service till now. Dr. MonmiSaikia joined the deptt. on 01-03-2017 and she left the department on 03.08.2018. Dr. Diparjun Dasjoined the deptt. on 10.11.2018 and he  left the department on 22.09.2021. Martha Brahma joined the deptt. on 22.10.2021 and she left the department on 10.08.2023. NikhileshSutradhar joined the deptt. on 13.09.2023 and he is continuing his service till now.

Objectives :

1. The main objective of the subject is to develop the basic understanding on physical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and organic chemistry.
2. The learners will be acquainted with different experimental techniques used in chemistry.
3. In Chirang district Bijni College is only the Higher Educational Institution having Science Stream. So, the Chemistry dept. makes the students aware about Chemistry and Chemical Sciences.
4. The dept. offers Major Course to the students so that they can pursue higher education and can make their career bright.

Vision :

1. The dept. is planning to intensify the academic activities for the benefit of the students.
2. The department is also planning to make the subject popular among the school level students to attract them towards this field as well as to develop a scientific view in them.
